Many new UAE companies assume corporate tax is a problem for later, because they have not traded yet or expect to pay no tax. That assumption is the most common route into an avoidable penalty. Registration is a separate obligation from filing and paying tax, and for companies incorporated on or after 1 March 2024 the deadline runs from incorporation.

The registration deadline for new companies
For companies incorporated on or after 1 March 2024, the published rule is three months from incorporation to register for corporate tax. This applies even if the company has not started trading yet. As an example, a company incorporated on 15 June 2026 would need to register by 15 September 2026.
What late registration costs
A fixed administrative penalty of AED 10,000 applies to late registration. It applies regardless of whether any tax is payable, and it is charged per taxable person rather than per licence. Because the penalty depends on the date of submission, applying as soon as possible limits the exposure.
Where to register: EmaraTax
Corporate tax registration is submitted through the Federal Tax Authority’s EmaraTax portal, using UAE Pass for access. Prepare the following before you start:
- Trade licence and the date of incorporation
- Details of the business activities, including whether income may be qualifying
- Owner, shareholder and authorised signatory information
- Bank account details
- Accounting period you plan to use
Registration is not the same as filing
Once registered, the company must still file a corporate tax return and pay any tax due by the filing deadline for its tax period. Even a company with a 0% effective rate, such as a qualifying free zone person, must file on time. Our UAE corporate tax 2026 deadlines guide covers the filing calendar.
Common mistakes for new companies
- Believing that a company with no revenue does not need to register.
- Registering a company’s free zone status without checking the qualifying-income conditions.
- Missing the three-month window because the licence was issued in a different name or before a bank account was opened.
- Assuming the free zone authority handles corporate tax registration for you. It does not automatically replace your own obligation to register.
A registration checklist for your first quarter
- Calendar the three-month registration deadline from the incorporation date.
- Register on EmaraTax well before the deadline.
- Confirm your financial year and first tax period.
- Check whether any income may qualify for the 0% rate, and document it.
- Calendar the filing deadline for your first tax period.
